WASHINGTON, DC—Opportunity DC today announced its endorsement of Brooke Pinto for Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives and Charles Allen for re-election to the DC Council representing Ward 6.

The endorsements reflect both candidates’ support for practical policies that expand economic opportunity, strengthen public safety, and keep the District competitive and affordable for residents, employers, and small businesses.

Throughout her time on the Council, Councilmember Pinto has been a critical voice for employers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses who create jobs and grow the city's economy. She seeks out solutions to government inefficiency and has championed new approaches to support growth, authoring the BEST Act to streamline the basic business licensing process for small businesses. When DC violent crime rates hit a 25-year high, Councilmember Pinto introduced the Secure DC public safety omnibus bill and passed the legislation unanimously. This package included targeted prevention efforts, root-cause solutions for crime, and a renewed focus on reducing 911-call response times. Secure DC would not have passed without Councilmember Pinto’s leadership.

Last year, Councilmember Allen voted for two key housing bills, the RENTAL Act to modernize the District’s housing rules and the RFK redevelopment legislation to build 6,500 new housing units. He is an advocate for high-quality public education, supporting mayoral control of schools, equitable funding for DCPS and public charter students through the Uniform Per Student Funding Formula, and early intervention to address chronic absenteeism. His new initiative to create a dedicated, small-business call center will help small businesses get quick and clear information to expedite the permitting and review process.

"At a time when the District faces unprecedented economic and political challenges, we need leaders who know how to get things done," said Malcom Fox, Executive Director of Opportunity DC. "Brooke Pinto has shown she is a pragmatic, results-oriented leader who understands what it takes to keep the District safe, affordable, and free from federal interference. Charles Allen has demonstrated that you can be progressive and pro-growth. He shares our understanding that expanding housing and supporting development are essential to DC’s future. District residents need their leadership to become a city that is safe, affordable, and prosperous for all.”
